A wall painting inspired by the sundial depicted on the façade of Saint Mary’s Church in the town of Samoëns in southern France. In this work, the “clock” is frozen, static, and disrupted—by virtue of being displayed indoors, without direct sunlight. The painting attempts to embody a portrait of feminine time: cyclical, yet pressuring and finite. The original sun circles have been replaced by placental circles; the hours have been erased and reduced to a single repeating numeral—four. A charged hour within the cycles of a woman’s life: four in the afternoon, the moment she is expected to collect her children from school; and forty years, the span in which her body’s fertility is measured.
